We Sell & Buy Scrap

Also referred to as “bright & shiny copper,” it is the most valuable and high-paying grade around. It refers exclusively to bare, uncoated and unalloyed wire or cable – no thinner than 16 gauge in thickness – which is of #1 copper quality. Copper piping is not included within the classification.

#1 Copper is any copper material that is free from any other contaminants such as brass, paint, steel, plastic, or tin. #1 Copper can be found in many plumbing fixtures, radiators and electrical parts.

This is characterized by miscellaneous, unalloyed wire or solid metal with solder or other coatings such as paint. #2 Copper includes dirty copper metal with a 94-96% copper composition and should be uninsulated and with a 16th-inch diameter.

Bronze is a great metal to scrap and is always worth more than brass, but less then copper. Bronze generally consists of 90 percent copper and 10 percent zinc.

Brass that has less than 37 percent zinc content. While small amounts of some additional metals, such as tin and lead, may be added to red brass, the predominant metal that makes up this alloy is copper. In fact, most red brass has a copper content of 85 percent or higher.

Yellow brass typically has a copper content that is about 60 percent or lower. For this reason, yellow brass is less valuable than red brass, yet more valuable than zinc-rich irony brass. Yellow brass is pale yellow in appearance.

New scrap is copper metal discarded in fabrication and manufacturing processes and is typically considered higher-grade material than old scrap. Old scrap refers to copper wire, copper tubing, roofing copper or copper pipe from post-consumer products that can be converted to refined metal and alloys. Growing demand for below applications around the world has had a direct impact on the growth of the Copper Scrap: Transportation, Construction, Electrical and Electronics, Industrial Machinery, etc.

Brass is an alloy that contains varying amounts of copper or zinc. On the surface, brass is very similar to bronze and is often interchangeable. However, bronze is resistant to corrosion, and it has small identifying rings on its surface. Brass also has other advantageous properties, including its bacterial resistance and versatility.
